Exterior Home Design

1. Roofs
Use Home Designer to create a variety of automatic roof styles. Learn about the different types of roofs available by visiting the Build Roof dialog. On the Roof Styles tab you can find information for creating the roof style you need. You can also customize the pitch, overhang distance, and more in the Build Roof dialog. Assign different roof attributes, such as gable, hip, or shed roof, by opening the wall specification for the roof you intend to build.

2. Arched Windows
You’ll find a vast array of window options in the Window Specification dialog. Choose the Window Type, such as double-hung or casement, then assign Shapes or Arches to the window. Here we’ve created a Round Top Arch window with concentric divided lites. We also used the manual roof tools that are available in Home Designer Pro to create a series of roof planes to arch over this window.

3. Deck Railings
Use the Deck Railing tool to generate decks with automatic planking and support framing. Customize your deck planking layout to create patterns, such as herring bone. The deck railings can be customized with a variety of balusters, newels or panels. Simply open the deck railing specification, choose your railing type on the Railing tab, then from the Newels/Balusters tab choose the type of newels and balusters or choose panels from the Library Browser.

4. Curved Walls
Creating curved walls is easy in Home Designer. Use the Curved Wall tool from the toolbar to draw a new curved wall, or simply convert a straight wall to curved with the Change Line/Arc edit tool. You can adjust the radius of the wall or modify it by hand in your design.

5. Stairs
Design interior or exterior stairs for your design quickly and easily. Just choose the stair tool, then click and drag to draw a stair section. If you are connecting stairs to the ground, as in this example, simply use the Click Stairs tool to automatically create a stair that reaches in a single click.

6. Covered Patios
Patios are as easy to design as any other room in your house. Draw railings or invisible walls for the border of your patio, then paint the floors and walls using the Material Painter, Material Eyedropper or by choosing materials from the Library Browser. You have the option the add a roof to your patio, just open the Room Specification dialog and on the Structure tab make the changes to suit your design.
