QUESTION
Is it possible to select a group of objects all at once?
ANSWER
You can select a group of items using a selection marquee or by holding down the Shift key and clicking on multiple items. You can also group select select certain types of objects, such as doors or cabinets.
To group select objects
- Using the Select Objects tool, left-click and drag a marquee around the objects you'd like to group select.
- Once you have done so, you will see that all of the objects are selected as in the image below.
-
Individual items can also be added to a selection by holding the Shift key on your keyboard while left-clicking on items. Items can be de-selected from a selection by holding the Ctrl/Command key and clicking again on any currently selected items.
To select one type of item
- Select the appropriate tool for the item that you want to group select.
For example, select the Base Cabinet tool to select only base cabinet objects.
- With the tool enabled, hold the Shift key on your keyboard, then click and drag a marquee around an area containing the items you want selected.
Since the Base Cabinet tool was selected when the selection marquee was drawn, only the base cabinets were selected, even though the selection contained walls.
In Home Designer 2020 and newer program versions, the Marquee Select Similar edit tool was introduced.
To use the Marquee Select Similar edit tool
- Using the Select Objects tool, click on an object you'd like to group select.
- With the object selected, click on the Marquee Select Similar edit tool.
- The Restrictive Selection mode will now be active. Create a selection marquee encompassing all of the similar objects to add them to the group selection.
- Alternatively, you can click on the Select All Similar mode to add all similar objects to the selection.
