QUESTION

Sometimes, when I try to place an object from the library into my plan, I receive one of the following messages:

  • "#272012932 - The symbol you are trying to place was designed to be placed onto the top of a base cabinet but you did not select an appropriate cabinet. Would you like to place the symbol as a free standing object?"

  • "#272012933 - The symbol you are trying to place was designed to be placed into the front of a cabinet but you did not select an appropriate cabinet. Would you like to place the symbol as a free standing object?"

What do these messages mean?

ANSWER

There are several broad categories of objects in the Chief Architect library, including:

  • Free-standing objects - for example, furniture, furnishings, and plants.

  • Applied objects - for example, materials and moldings, which are almost always applied to other objects.

  • Inserted objects - for example, appliances or fixtures designed to be built into or placed on top of cabinets.

This message will display if you try to place an inserted object in an empty space in your plan as though it were a free-standing object, or if you attempt to place an inserted object into/onto a cabinet that is part of an architectural block.

You can place an inserted object on its own in a plan, but be aware that it was designed to be built or inserted into an object like a cabinet and may not look the way you expect. If the cabinet you're intending to place the object into/onto is part of a block, explode the block using the Explode Architectural Block  edit tool, insert/place the object, then block the components back together.

For best results, place inserted objects into the items that they are intended to work with.

  • Built-in appliances like wall ovens and dishwashers can be placed by selecting the item in the library, then clicking on a full height or base cabinet in either floor plan or a 3D view.

  • Millwork, like cabinet feet and pilasters, can be inserted into cabinets by specifying them in the Cabinet Specification dialog.
